The Nabta Playa complex is located 100km west of Abu Simbel in the Nubian Desert. It was first discovered in 1974 by a team led by Professor of Anthropology Fred Wendorf. The team determined that the stone structures, the oldest yet found, were a center of ritual gathering dating from as early as 11,000 years ago.
